Working Principle

The AAT1409IMK-T1 device has an internal power supply voltage regulator (PSVR) which generates a regulated power supply voltage to power all internal circuitry. The device also contains an on-chip current regulator, a quasi-resonant regulator and PFM control logic for controlling the LED brightness. The PWM signal which controls the LED current is generated by the quasi-resonant regulator. The quasi-resonant (QR) switching regulator is an advanced switching regulator which combines the maximum output power efficiency of PWM control with the minimum interference of PFM. The benefit is increased efficiency for any given input voltage, lower heat dissipation, and lower EMI. The current regulator compares the output current from the QR regulator to the desired value, and regulates the output current to match by adjusting the DC voltage at the current sense pin.The AAT1409IMK-T1 also provides open and short circuit protection for the LEDs, as well as soft start, thermal protection, reverse protection, and adjustable dimming functions (via the dimming input). The dimming input allows the LED brightness to be adjusted between 0% and 100% in order to control the LED’s light output. This device is designed to operate over a wide temperature range, and provides superior efficiency, superior durability, and superior accuracy.
