ACPL-C780-060E is an optically-coupled transceiver used for the transmission of digital signals across optical fiber cables. This device is an integrated linear circuit that employs a pair of phototransistor output optically-coupled with a gallium arsenide infrared light-emitting diode (IR LED) input. It is a part of the CPL family of transceivers by Avago Technologies, which are used as interface circuits to transfer digital data signals between various electrical, optical and communication systems.

Working Principle
The working principle of ACPL-C780-060E is based on optically-coupled isolation of input and output channels. An input signal applied to the associated IR LEDoptically-couples the signal to the phototransistor, while the IR LED is isolated from the output. This forms a transmissive type of isolation link that delivers high level of direct current isolation.
The phototransistor switches on when it senses a signal from the IR LED and passes it on to the output circuit, while the photodiode current remains unchanged. This, in turn, allows the output circuit to read the signal and then send it to the receiver, which further processes it. The overall process of signal transmission is then completed.
In order to attain a better isolation, ACPL-C780-060E utilizes LVTTL, providing an output on both logic Low and logic High states. Apart from this, the device also boasts LED driving capabilities, meaning that it can drive any LED type, even those with a higher forward voltage.
