The AD652AQ/+ PMIC - V/F and F/V converters combines Voltage-to-Frequency (V/F) and Frequency-to-Voltage (F/V) conversion in one device. It is especially suited for precise control of load, gain, and speed over wide temperature ranges. The device features low temperature drift and excellent stability. The V/F and F/V conversion feature is provided by a topology consisting of a dithered sinusoidal oscillator, signal mixing, and a comparator.
F/V Converters involve circuitry and components designed to electronically convert signals from a frequency domain – specified in terms of frequency, frequency range, and/or signal source type – to a voltage domain. If the signal source frequency is known, the circuitry will convert it to a corresponding DC voltage. The AD652AQ/+ is suitable for use in a variety of applications and is especially useful for controlling speed (or “gain”) over wide temperature ranges.
The AD652AQ/+ F/V conversion is based on a “mixing-comparator” topology, where the input is applied to a sinusoidal oscillator, which is subsequently mixed with a second sinusoidal oscillator. The signal resulting from the mixing is then compared with a reference voltage and, if the signal is larger than the reference voltage, the device produces a logic high output, otherwise it produces a logic low. This topology ensures excellent linearity, stability and temperature-independent performance.
The AD652AQ/+ also includes a temperature-compensating V/F converter. The V/F converter works in the same way as the F/V converter, but with the direction reversed – the input is converted from a voltage domain to a frequency domain. This feature makes it suitable for a variety of load and speed control applications at low temperatures.
The AD652AQ/+ is powered with a single +5V supply, and is available in 8-pin SOIC and 8-pin PDIP packages. The device can be operated over the extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, making it ideal for use in harsh environments. The device also features low power consumption and is suitable for battery-powered applications.
