Data Acquisition - Analog Front End (AFE)Analog Front End (AFE) is a type of interface between analog signals and digital circuits that acquires and processes analog signals. The AD7195BCPZ is a highly integrated, general purpose, low noise, precision Analog-to-Digital converter (ADC) that has been specially designed to be used in a variety of data acquisition applications.The signal acquisition range of the AD7195BCPZ is unipolar and differential, with a programmable gain amplifier (PGA) and the ability to support a range of signal frequencies up to 10 MHz. It has programmable input and output filters, dual internal charge pumps, and a built-in temperature sensor that help reduce noise and provide reliable data for digital processing. The on-chip support of wide signal ranges also help to reduce component count and simplify system design.AD7195BCPZ applications include industrial and military applications such as test and measurement, portable instrumentation, precision measurement, low power data acquisition systems and energy management systems. It is ideal for applications that require high resolution, low noise and robust data processing over wide signal bandwidths.The working principle of the AD7195BCPZ is based on the industry-standard Successive Approximation Register (SAR) architecture. This architecture processes analog samples by electronically comparing each bit in a successive approximation register (SAR) until the closest decimal equivalent of an analog signal is found among the available binary bits. During operation, the SAR stores bits until a match with the analog signal is achieved.Once all bits are stored, the SAR advances to a new sample, and the stored bits are read out and sent to the digital signal processing (DSP) block. A programmable load capacitor at the input of the SAR helps to reduce the associated noise and to extend the signal bandwidth. The signal bandwidth is further improved by a unique low pass filter in the SAR block, which plays an important role in providing high-resolution, low-noise results for the digital signal processing. On chip, programmable input and output filters also help to minimize signal distortion and aliasing.The AD7195BCPZ also features a built-in temperature sensor that helps to reduce the effects of thermal drifts in the system and supports an on-chip analog-to-digital conversion range of up to 1.8V. This is ideal for applications that require high resolution, low noise and reliable data for digital processing.Overall, the AD7195BCPZ Analog Front End provides an innovative solution for data acquisition in a variety of industries.
