Analog to Digital Converters (ADC) is an important element of data acquisition in industrial and consumer electronics. Analog signals have to be converted to a digital form so that they can be expected and used correctly by a computer, microcontroller or any digital system. The AD7265BCPZ is one such high-precision, low-power, 12-bit Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) from Analog Devices. The SAR logic works in this way: Initially the MSB (Most Significant Bit) of the digital code is set to “1”. The input voltage is then compared with a reference voltage generated by the DAC (Digital to Analog Converter). If the input voltage is higher than the DAC reference voltage then the MSB is set to “0” and the next most significant bit is set “1”. This process is repeated until all the bits in the digital code have been tried. This process is known as the "Successive Approximation" process. When all of the bits have been tested, the final digital code is determined and the conversion is complete. The Digital Output Register then stores the converted digital code.

The AD7265BCPZ has very low power consumption and high precision making it an excellent choice for data acquisition applications.
