The ADC3442IRTQT is an integrated, high-speed, precision analog-to-digital converter. The device operates on a single 5V supply and outputs 10 bits of data at a throughput rate of up to 6 MSPS. It contains an on-chip reference generator, a low-noise, laser trimmed resistive input stage and a high-resolution successive approximation analog-to-digital converter. The device allows input signals up to +13 dBm with 37-dB typical dynamic range, making it ideal for low-level signal measurements. The highly precise, integrated reference source eliminates the need for an external reference. A single control pin is used to set the device to either the normal, high frequency, or high-precision modes of operation. The conversion process begins with the input signal being applied to the input stage of the device, where it is low-pass filtered and passed to the successive approximation converter (SAR) as a voltage. The SAR then performs an iterative process where it “guesses” and compares the input voltage to a reference voltage until it finds a value within the required precision.
