ADM485AN is a differential bus transceiver and is used for transmitting and receiving data in physical segment level. It belongs to the family of Interface - Drivers, Receivers, Transceivers.

The basic purpose of ADM485AN is to merge the data from transmit side to receive side and vice versa. This procedure is normally done between 12 pins that requires Twisted-pair cables. This transceiver is designed by Analog Devices with high performance feature inside that enables it to operate in multiple data rate of up to 1 Mbps with differential signaling.

The working principle of ADM485AN combines the three main components, namely the input stage, differential receiver, and the output stage.

In the input stage the device manages to get the logic levels that it needs to transmit or receive data. It can either use the two differential inputs or two individual Inputs, depending on the setup.

The differential receiver will then take the data given by the Input stage and decode it. This is done in a process of 2x oversampling data rate, meaning that it takes 2 samples of the input and assigns them a 1 or a 0.

Finally in the output stage the device will now output the decoded data. The output stage acts like a buffer, meaning tha it is able to latch the data and only out the valid outputs.

The ADM485AN is widely used in various applications such as automotive, industrial control systems, infrared imaging, ADSL and so on due to its high performance capabilities. It is also easy to use with basic understanding of differential signaling and logic levels.
