PMIC - Supervisors are devices that provide system performance with improved safety. They are critical components for a variety of applications, from consumer electronics to medical and automotive applications. The ADM696ARZ-REEL is one such PMIC Supervisor designed for a variety of industrial and consumer applications.
The ADM696ARZ-REEL is a monolithic design capable of detecting low voltage and overvoltage conditions. It is capable of providing reliable power management for a wide range of systems. It has a wide supply operating range from 2.7V to 13.2V and can protect from input voltage transients up to 46V. This device allows the system to be energize, or power-down, with intermittent monitoring of a wide range of supply voltages. In order to maximize system reliability, the ADM696ARZ-REEL is built to detect various system conditions and wake the system, alerting if a fault condition is detected.
The device is engineered to deliver reliable system performance, including LED output current tracking, response time, and temperature ranges. The ADM696ARZ-REEL can operate up to 1 MHz in supply frequencies. In addition, its features include thermal shutdown, undervoltage lockout, adjustable digital filter, and programmable threshold levels.
The working principle of the ADM696ARZ-REEL is based on a communication interface and dual level voltage supervisor. This supervisor has a supply voltage input and an auxiliary supply voltage input. The supply voltage is usually connected to a power controller as it acts as a reference for the voltage supervisor. The VDD2 pin is connected to the auxiliary voltage source and it is an input to the device.
The voltage supervisor compares the supply voltage and the auxiliary voltage. The set threshold level is compared against both regular and auxiliary voltages. When the voltage exceeds this threshold, a timeout period is set, after which the device will wake the system up or if the condition persists the system will be shut down. This allows the device to warn the system in case of a fault condition.
In addition to voltage supervisor, the ADM696ARZ-REEL also has an LED current tracker and a temperature sensor.
