Working Principle

The device  implements the 10Mbps physical-layer functions of the IEEE 802.3 standard and the 100Mbps physical-layer functions of the IEEE 802.3u standard. It connects to the MAC interface through the MII consisting of four pins for the operation of 10Mbps and 22 pins for the operation of 100Mbps. When receiving or transmitting a packet, the device conforming to the Ethernet standard will first use auto-negotiation technology to execute a series of operations such as confirming the connection speed and duplex mode, and then transmitting the signal. When a signal frame is received, the physical layer will execute corresponding operations such as decoding, transferring, pulse shaping and equalization to restore the signal before sending it to the MAC layer.

The device has built-in NRZI encoding circuits and supports both encoder and decoder functions.   The device is equipped with a port-speed-status signal indicator connected to a signal input pin, which can obtain the connection speed of the signal packet, allowing the host page to read the connection speed of the device.  The device also supports remote loopback testing and provides two pins to detect far-end loop status.
