The ADP2116-BL1-EVZ Evaluation Board is a DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS designed to evaluate the ADP2116 controller in a maximum efficiency, minimum power dissipation end-equipment application. It also serves as a reference platform for developing high efficiency, switched mode power supplies within a switching frequency range of 200kHz to 500kHz. This evaluation board features high voltage integrated power FETs, wide input voltage range from 1.8V up to 450V, and integrated high voltage startup circuit. It also includes thermal protection, current foldback and high voltage protection blocks for safety.

The ADP2116-BL1-EVZ evaluation board uses ADP2116 for current-mode, DC/DC & AC/DC off-line control of a synchronous, step-down converter. This device is optimized for applications with input voltage between 18V and 450V, applications feature a continuous current up to 58A. The device is optimized for good efficiency and fast transient response.

The ADP2116 includes the features such as skip cycle control, multiple current limit thresholds, over-current protection, inrush current detection and control, auto-pinput sensitive precision current sensing, and spread spectrum frequency modulation. The current limit is set through a resistor, and is capable of detecting and limiting inrush current at a level as low as 1.8A. It also includes a precision voltage reference with 0.3% accuracy, and a temperature compensation network for a fast and consistent current limit over the full operating temperature range.

The Evaluation Board also features wide range of adjustable output voltage, output voltage range from 0.7V to 5V, PWM frequency range from 200kHz to 500kHz, active voltage control, frequency dithering, cycle skip, and short-circuit protection functions. The adjustable output voltage is provided by the external MOSFET, the PWM signal is generated by the microcontroller, and the PWM frequency is adjustable using a resistor.
