The ADP2120ACPZ-R7 is a multifunction, low-noise linear regulator integrated circuit that incorporates a synchronous step-down DC/DC converter, two low-output-noise low-dropout linear regulators, a power aggregator, and companion voltage scaling redrivers. This integrated circuit provides a complete power solution for a wide range of application with a small number of components. Its high efficiency and low-noise output make it well suited for a number of different applications in the power management industry.
Application field: ADP2120ACPZ-R7 can be utilized in a number of power management applications such as providing local regulation from battery cells, providing secondary step-down regulation from a point-of-load, powering microcontroller core rails, audio/visual power management, communications power management, and powering high current peripherals. It can also be used to regulate and monitor high-side digital power rails.
Working Principle: The ADP2120ACPZ-R7 adopts a constant on-time approach to voltage regulation that gives high efficiency, comprehensive load-line regulation, fast transient response, and excellent line regulation characteristics. It uses a low quiescent current dual-mode controlling architecture that enables seamless current sharing and remote sensing. The voltage regulation loop uses an external compensation network to provide stable loop response. The device features a power aggregation feature to increase the input voltage range up to 6V. The device supports external resistive voltage scaling, which can be adjusted through four external resistors to improve the output accuracy over temperature and load.
For high current applications, the ADP2120ACPZ-R7 can adopt a synchronous step-down switching architecture. This architecture enables more efficient operation and reduces internal power dissipation. The switching frequency can be adjusted with an external clock signal or an internal constant oscillator, which can be set between 425 kHz and 2.2 MHz depending on the application requirements. The system can power up to 4 A load current and a wide output range up to 24 V, with high efficiency at different loads.
