The ADP2165-EVALZ evaluation board is a versatile, low-profile demonstration board designed for offline DC/DC and AC/DC Switching Mode Power Supplies (SMPS), specifically for the ADP2165 series of buck converters. It offers a range of features and flexibility that allows individual user configuration enabling users to optimize their designs. In this article, we will be discussing the application fields and working principles of the ADP2165-EVALZ evaluation board.
The ADP2165-EVALZ evaluation board can be used to facilitate high frequency, wide input voltage and two-stage architectures, such as flyback and forward architectures. It can also be used in applications such as 12V to 1V conversion, negative voltage rail creation and providing power for microcontrollers and RAMs such as DDR2. It can also be used to create switching power supplies for LED backlighting, TV and monitor designs, as well as for portable device charging solutions.
The ADP2165-EVALZ evaluation board can generate an adjustable output voltage range from 9V to 28V, with current sinking capability up to 10 Amps and an efficiency range of up to 93%. It is built of an ADP2165 switching controller, MOSFETs, resistors, ceramic capacitors, and diodes, and comes with strong external support, such as input EMI filter or output filter where required, and with two types of voltage feedback, providing users with the possibility to develop either constant voltage flyback or constant current designs.
As for the working principle, the ADP2165-EVALZ board uses digital current control and is based on the MCU control and maximum current mode control algorithm. In this type of control, the maximum peak current is used as the main parameter. This ensures stability, light load efficiency, and fast transient response.
