DC-DC switching regulators are a type of power management integrated circuit (PMIC) regulators that are used to convert power from a higher voltage to a lower voltage more efficiently than linear regulators.The ADP2230ACPZ-1218R7 is an adjustable synchronous step-down PMIC regulator from the ADP2230 product family manufactured by Analog Devices. The ADP2230ACPZ-1218R7 works by using an inductor-capacitor network to transfer energy from one rail to the other. This is done through switching a series of transistors as the loads demand. In order to control the output voltage and current accurately, the device continuously monitors the two Input/Output voltages. When the output voltage falls below the set point, the output duty cycle is increased until the voltage reaches the desired level. When it rises above, the duty cycle is decreased. ADP2230ACPZ-1218R7 step-down regulator can be used in a variety of applications, including automotive, industrial, consumer power and battery applications thanks to its high efficiency (up to 97%), high switching frequency (up to 1MHz), wide input voltage range (from 2V to 24V), wide output voltage range (0.6V to 10V), and its ability to drive loads up to 3A. It offers load disconnect for battery backup, output voltage tracking and adjustable soft-start which make the device more flexible. It also has a low output noise (<5mV peak to peak) which makes it ideal for applications requiring low-noise operation.
The device also features a Protected OC/UVLO, thermal protection, and an over current/current limit/over voltage protection.
