The ADP2380-EVALZ evaluation board from Analog Devices is a great tool fortesting and developing DC/DC and AC/DC power supplies. This board is designed for off-lineswitch-mode power supplies and is capable of handling loads up to 250 W. This boardcan be utilized for both pre-regulation and post-regulation power stages as well as forconversion of unregulated AC/DC to regulated DC/DC voltage powers. The board is designed toeasily integrate into existing systems using the same power supplies used in the targetapplication.
The ADP2380-EVALZ evaluation board is composed of two parts: a power stage anda control stage. The power stage consists of two main components: the switch-modepower supply, which is responsible for power conversion, and the output post-regulationand current sensing/limiting which is used to regulate the output voltage. In addition,there is an optional MOSFET bridge, which can be used with the power stage if a higheroutput power is needed. The control stage is responsible for monitoring and adjusting thepower supply parameters, such as input voltage, output voltage, load current, andtemperature. It also controls the power supply during overload conditions.
The ADP2380-EVALZ evaluation board utilizes a synchronous buck PWM circuit toconvert the supplied voltage into the desired output voltage. This circuit is composedof a MOSFET switch, inductor, and a diode that work together to create an output voltagethat is proportional to the ratio of the supplied voltage to the output voltage. TheADP2380-EVALZ is also equipped with an output post-regulation stage, which helps toensure that the output voltage is regulated at the desired level. This stage is composed ofan error amplifier, Zener diode, and a sense resistor, which provides feedback to thecontrol stage to ensure the desired output voltage. The control stage is responsible foradjusting the duty cycle of the PWM circuit to maintain the desired output voltage.
The ADP2380-EVALZ evaluation board is a great tool for evaluating, testing, anddeveloping DC/DC and AC/DC off-line switch-mode power supplies. Its ability to handleloads up to 250 W, combined with the powerstage and controllable MOSFET bridge,enable a wide range of power supply applications.
