The ADP5300ACPZ-1-R7 is an integrated circuit designed for use as a high performance dc-dc switching regulator. The device is a general-purpose step-down dc-dc converter with integrated MOSFETs, allowing the user to simply connect input and output power rails to the device. The device operates in a fixed frequency, pulse width modulation (PWM) mode and has a dual low-side high-side output stage.The device incorporates current limit, under voltage lock out (UVLO), and thermal shutdown protection. It also includes output voltage margining and a level shifter on the enable/warn pin.In addition to a typical dc-dc conversion application, the ADP5300ACPZ-1-R7 is ideally suited for Buck-Boost applications, battery powered applications, and any other applications requiring a step-down dc-dc converter.

Working Principle

The ADP5300ACPZ-1-R7 is a synchronous step-down DC-DC converter with integrated MOSFETs that operates using a fixed frequency PWM (pulse width modulation) mode. The device includes an on-chip error amplifier, which is used to maintain a regulated output voltage even when the input voltage and/or load current varies. The PWM control circuitry generates an adjustable pulse that varies in width based on the difference between the feedback voltage and the error amplifier’s reference voltage.When the feedback voltage is lower than the reference voltage, the pulse width is increased and more current is delivered to the inductor. Conversely, when the feedback voltage is higher than the reference voltage, the pulse width is decreased and less current is delivered to the inductor. This results in a lower output voltage, which helps to maintain the regulated output voltage.The MOSFETs used in the ADP5300ACPZ-1-R7 are high side and low side devices connected in a synchronous buck configuration. The high side device is connected from the input voltage source and the low side is connected from the output voltage source to the inductor. The duty cycle (ratio of on time to off time) of the high side and low side MOSFET are responsively varied to control the transfer of power from the input to the output.
