The ADS8861IDGSR ADC has a three-stage architecture consisting of Analogue Front-end (AFE), Analogue-to-Digital Converter (ADC), and Digital Noise-shaping Filters (DNFs). The AFE contains a signal conditioning stage, an amplifier stage, and a peak detector. The signal conditioning stage amplifies the signal, before it is passed through the amplifier stage, which utilizes a nominally optimized rail-to-rail operational amplifier. The peak detector makes sure that the signal is correctly captured by sampling its peak within the sampling interval. The ADC is based on a folding and interpolation architecture, coupled with a sub-range technique, and is used to accurately convert the analog signal to a digital signal. The Digital Noise-shaping Filters are used to reduce the out-of-band noise and improve the signal-to-noise-and-distortion ratio.

The ADS8861IDGSR has several added features to make it ideal for industrial applications. It utilizes a 1.8V power supply, which minimizes the overall power consumption, and the power-down mode reduces the input sample current down to 5µA.
