AFL1200 application field and working principle
An AFL1200 is a universal and versatile instrument used to measure both loss and reflectance of optical fibers. It is widely used in optical fiber laboratories and field applications such as telecommunication, data communication, and fiber-optical networking.
The AFL1200 is composed of four basic components, a light source, a detector, a digital meter and a software. The light source is usually an LED or laser diode, which emits light at a particular wavelength. This emitted light is directed into one end of the optical fiber and transmitted along the fiber to the detector. The detector then measures the intensity of the returned light. The output of the detector is connected to the digital meter, which measures the magnitude of the intensity of the reflected light and displays the values accordingly. The software can then be used to interpret and analyze the data from the digital meter.
The AFL1200 offers multiple functions for precise and efficient measurement of optical fibers. Firstly, it can perform the basic loss measurements with its two-level detector option, such as a total power loss and an insertion loss test. It is also capable of measuring more complex parameters such as optical frequency-dependent losses, optical return loss, polarization-dependant loss, and splitter loss.
The AFL1200 also features several test and calibration functions to ensure accurate measurements. It has an automated calibration function which compensates for any environmental factors that would otherwise affect the accuracy of the reading. It also has an automated temperature compensation function which accounts for any temperature-related effects on the readings. An optical fiber power meter and a single-mode and multi-mode laser are also available as optional accessories.
In addition, the AFL1200 also features a “Log-Gain” function, which automatically measures the gain of an optical fiber. This is especially useful for troubleshooting networks, monitoring transmission performance, and evaluating optical fiber components. The AFL1200 also includes a built-in statistical analysis function which can be used for quick comparison of optical link performance and troubleshoot optical fiber networks.
