The AIS328DQTR motion sensor is a low-power, 3-axis accelerometer designed for applications that require accurate relative motion detection in one or multiple planes. Compactly packaged in a low-profile 3x3 mm QFN package, the AIS328DQTR offers motion sensing capabilities to enable gesture and motion recognition, tilt-compensated electronic levels, orientation detection, and motion detection and tracking for portable consumer electronics devices in industrial, automotive and consumer applications.

Measuring only 3x3 mm and weighing 0.4g, AIS328DQTR is the smallest and lightest accelerometer on the market. The low power requirements and the ability to operate over the full temperature range of -20°C to +85°C sets the AIS328DQT apart from previous generations of accelerometers. The device also features an on-board temperature sensor that allows for accurate temperature compensation of the acceleration readings. Furthermore, configurable interrupt generation can be used to reduce the power requirements even further.

The AIS328DQT operates by measuring the accelerative force generated by inertial body movement in three planes. The two hall-effect sensing elements detect changes in the surrounding magnetic field as they move in relation to the Earth’s gravitational pull. The outputs are then filtered through the built-in low-pass filter to provide clean, stable, and accurate acceleration measurements.

The AIS328DQT offers a selectable power-down mode which reduces the power consumed during periods of inactivity. Additionally, an embedded self-test feature allows for a check of the accelerometer’s functionality and integrity without the need to connect external components, making it an ideal solution for system designers. An optional external signal conditioning circuit can be added for improved accuracy and stability if needed.

The AIS328DQT is suitable for use in applications requiring accurate measurement of motion in multiple planes such as gesture recognition, 3D game controllers, location-based services, sports performance monitoring, and power consumption optimization in mobile devices. It is also suitable for automotive applications requiring vibration and crash detection as well as advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) that rely on precise motion sensing.
