AK 06WK Application Field and Working Principle
AK 06WK diode is a type of single rectifier diode, and have a wide application field. They are through-hole mounted components and typically used in bridge rectifier circuits, and play an important role in providing efficient supply-line rectification and AC wave-shaping. The purpose of theRectifier Diode is to convert AC Voltage to DC Voltage. This conversion of AC to DC is also known as rectification.
Working Principles
When an AC voltage is applied to the two terminals of an AK 06WK diode, current flows in one direction during the positive half cycles, and in the opposite direction during negative half cycles. During one cycle, the whole voltage appears across the diode, however, only during the positive half cycles a large current will pass through. This is due to the property of the diode that it has very low conduction (or high resistance) during negative cycles and high conduction ( low resistance) during positive cycles.
A typical bridge rectifier circuit consists of four diodes connected in a bridge where each diode can carry current from one bipolar junction transistor or equivalent LED to another. When an AC voltage is applied, one pair of diodes will conduct alternatively during each half cycle of the AC. This is known as the "reciprocal" action. During the positive half-cycle, the terminal connected to the cathode of the diode will be positive and the terminal connected to the anode will be negative. During the negative half-cycle, the terminally connected to the cathode will become negative and the one connected to the anode will become positive. Thus current flows in one direction during the positive half-cycle, and in the opposite direction during the negative cycle.
Applications
AK 06WK Diode can be used in a variety of applications including rectification of AC signals and power supplies in inverter circuits, line-frequency chokes, voltage multipliers, clipper circuits, and line conditioners. It is suitable for applications that require low Vf, low leakage current, high peak reverse voltage and operating temperature up to +125°C.
AK 06WK diodes can also be used in low- and medium-power AC/DC converters, and are particularly useful in AC-DC power supplies with switch-mode regulators. These diodes can also be used in automotive applications such as electric fuel pumps, windshield heaters, and electric sunroofs.
