Data acquisition using an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) often requires special purpose components. The AK4480EF is a recently released codec component by Japanese component producer AKM that fits in this category of products.

The component is described as a stereo, 192kHz audio digital/analog converter. It is capable of up to 24bit linear PCM, and is designed for various types of audio applications, such as CD players, radio tuners, and portable audio devices.

The device also comes with a programmable potentiometer which can be used to adjust the audio output level of the component.

The component requires only three input power supplies, with the potential difference between them configured according to the application requirements. The audio output can be connected to the home art or processor.

Once the device is connected, the data can be transferred from the application processor to the component via I2S or S/PDI formats. The data is then processed by the component’s integrated digital filters and stored in the internal SRAM (Static Random Access Memory) for analog-to-digital conversion. The conversion is done in two stages, first into PCM format and then further into the analog output. Finally, the analog output is passed through the output filter which further reduces distortion and noise.
