ALD4706PBL Application Field and Working Principle

The ALD4706PBL is a Linear - Amplifiers - Instrumentation, OP Amps, Buffer Amps dedicated operational amplifier (op amp) from Advanced Linear Devices Inc. The ALD4706PBL is a high-performance, high slew-rate, high-voltage, low-noise, low power and fast response from a wide input common-mode voltage range operation amplifier.

The ALD4706PBL can be used for applications such as signal conditioning and signal processing, level shifting and isolation, current sensing, analog signal buffering, summing amplifiers and so on. The application field can be divided into audio, video, automotive, medical, industrial and instrumentation.

The ALD4706PBL offers excellent input common-mode rejection (CMRR) and high open-loop gain. Additionally, the ALD4706PBL features rail-to-rail input and output stages and can drive heavy loads up to +-15V with a supply voltage of +-12V. The ALD4706PBL offers a high slew rate of 4.2MHz and a gain bandwidth product of 7.5MHz, allowing for excellent dynamic response characteristics. With low power consumption 7.5mW and low operating temperature range from -40 C to +85 C, the ALD4706PBL is ideally suited for these applications.

Working Principle

The ALD4706PBL is a three-stage op amp with an input stage, a gain stage, and an output stage. The input stage consists of a differential pair of input stage transistors, depicted as M1 and M2 in the image above, which provides the first amplification of the input signal. The differential pair is biased with current mirrors that limit the operating range of the pair and prevent saturation of the two transistors. The outputs of the differential pair, VINP and VINN, are passed through two series connected emitter followers, M3 and M4, to the gain stage.

The gain stage is comprised of a cascade of three transistors, M5, M6 and M7. The gain of the amplifier is determined by the size ratio of the transistors and can be adjusted by adjusting the voltage at the common base of the three transistors. The cascode gain stage provides additional power gain and helps to reduce noise. The output of the gain stage is connected to two current mirrors, M8 and M9, which mirror the output current to the output stage.

The output stage consists of two pairs of transistors, M10 and M11, and M12 and M13. The emitter of M10 and M11 is connected to the emitter of M12 and M13, respectively. The collectors of the two pairs of transistors are connected to the positive and negative outputs of the amplifier. The two pairs of transistors provide additional power amplification, while at the same time allowing the op amp to drive heavy loads.
