AM26LS32 series of line driver, receiver, and transceiver are an advanced generation of line drivers, receivers, and transceivers designed to meet the requirements of point-to-point and bus systems which continuously operate at higher speeds, larger size, and with shorter distances. This series of devices are ideal for communication and control applications in broadcast, aviation, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), computer, and industrial control systems, including those operating in harsh environments.
The AM26LS32ACPW is a quad differential line driver, receiver, and transceiver primarily intended for digital transmission applications, such as EIA-232, EIA-449, and V.35. It combines full duplex operation with the ability to drive and receive four lines, each containing a differential transmit data and received data pair. When placed in the transmit (T) mode, the device transmits and receives signals up to 1 Mbps. When placed in the receive (R) mode, the device operates with a receiver gain of 40 dB at a bit rate of up to 200 kbps.
The working principle behind the AM26LS32ACPW is quite simple. It operates on a differential transmission principle, which uses two distinct power supplies to transmit data over a single wire. The two supplies, known as the voltage supply (Vdd) and ground (Gnd), are used to maintain a specific polarity of the transmitted data. The data is transmitted in two directions, respectively, and each of the two wires carries one of the two signals, so that the polarity of the transmitted data is controlled.
When the AM26LS32ACPW is placed in the Transmit mode, the device uses the voltage supply (Vdd) to send a signal through the wire while the ground (Gnd) power source sinks the signal. This means that the transmitted data is sent in the opposite direction to that which would be sent in an active low drive situation, ensuring no cross-talking of the transmission signals. The transmitter also ensures a controlled output voltage swing, with the Transmit voltage limited to near zero volts and the receiver voltage capable of infinite levels. This ensures reliable communication and reduces interference and losses along the data transmission path.
