Working Principle

The AN79L05 is a low drop-out voltage regulator that uses an integrated P-channel MOSFET as the control element for voltage regulation. The device works by comparing the input voltage, which is applied to positive input (Vin) terminal, with a voltage reference at the negative input (Vref) terminal. When the voltage at the Vin terminal is greater than the voltage at the Vref terminal, the MOSFET is turned on to pull the output voltage lower. Conversely, when the voltage at the Vin terminal is less than the voltage at the Vref terminal, the MOSFET is turned off, allowing the output voltage to rise. The voltage sense resistor (RS) determines the effective gain of the regulator.

The AN79L05 also includes a low drop-out voltage, which is the difference between the input voltage and output voltage when the device is regulating. The low drop-out voltage ensures that the device can provide regulation even when the input voltage is close to the output voltage.
