The AGC circuit adjusts the amplitude of the input signal if there is any distortion. The mixer then mixes the two signals, adjusted by the AGC stage, and produces the output signal at the specified frequency.Finally, the phase-sensitive detector monitors any small deviations in the output signal frequency relative to the reference frequency and adjusts the control voltage on the VCO accordingly.
