The compact size of AP2S3LR Oscillators makes them suitable to be used in a wide range of applications such as cell phones, storage/networking systems, smart home appliances, etc.The working principle of AP2S3LR Programmable Oscillators is based on frequency division (FD) and the associated DDS (Direct Digital Synthesis) and fractional-N frequency synthesis technologies. This technique, based on Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), is used in different applications such as measuring, control and communication systems.The FD technique can be used to generate a signal of particular frequency by combining time-domain and frequency-domain signals. The signal is generated by using different coefficients of a reference frequency, forming a frequency “gameboard” inside the chip. This, in turn, allows all frequencies to derive from a single reference, saving on cost and space in the end product.DDS is also a frequency synthesizer, but uses mathematical calculations to generate frequency signal. It makes use of digital signals for generating a signal with fractions of the reference signal frequency. DDS does not use the frequency gameboard technique, but generates the signal on the fly. This makes DDS superior in terms of response time when compared to Frequency Division.Fractional-N frequency synthesis is one of the main features of AP2S3LR Programmable Oscillators. This technique is used to compensate any inherent instability in the design. It is able to divide the reference frequency with a fractional number to get the desired output signal.The AP2S3LR Programmable Oscillator also utilizes a wide range of integrated features such as advanced jitter suppression, DC-DC converter, fast lock circuitry, external timing controllers and frequency up/down converters.
