AP3612MTR-G is an integrated power management IC designed to drive LEDs. It is a part of PMIC - LED Driver application field and is ideal for use on mobile phone and consumer electronics. As a package, AP3612MTR-G1 offers enabled strobing capability, fast over-temperature protection, dynamic current control, and a low shutdown current. AP3612MTR-G1 integrates a DC/DC converter, step-down regulator, low dropout linear regulator, voltage reference and a programmable current sink. All of these components are concentrated into a small output board with 6 packages including SOT-23-6, SOT-89-6, DPAK, D2PAK, DPAK with heat sink, and SSOP-16. This reduces the size and cost of the product, making it easier and cheaper to use.

The working principle of the AP3612MTR-G1 begins with two power supplies, the power source and the power load. The power source is the higher voltage input that provides the energy needed to drive the LED. The power load, or LED, will be connected to the output of the device. When the LED is connected, the power source is connected to the input through the driver, it passes through several components within the IC.

An over-current protection system is provided to protect against sagging voltage levels or short circuits in the load. It also contains an over-temperature protection circuit to prevent warming of the IC. The shutdown current is also very low, ranging from 0.02A to 0.2A, so it can be easily powered down in the event of any problems.
