The device can be used for regulation of an output voltage from the voltage sources with the wide range of input voltages - from 1.7 V to 5.5 V.

Working Principle

The AP7311-18WG-7 is a low dropout regulator that can produce 3 A of output current. It is capable of regulating an output voltage as low as 1.0 V with an input voltage up to 5.5 V and a maximum dropout voltage of -320 mV. The AP7311-18WG-7 uses a CMOS pulse width modulation (PWM) voltage controlling scheme which enables the device to operate with very low quiescent current.

The device includes a feedback pin that provides voltage regulation. The bandgap-based internal reference is trimmed to provide high accuracy output voltage regulation with low temperature coefficient. At power up, the device enters a soft start cycle. The internal soft start ramp is clamped to minimize inrush current. An over current protection (OCP) circuit limits the peak output current. In case of an over current condition, the device shuts down and its outputs remain in the low state until the power drops below the normal operating level.

The device also includes a power-on-reset (POR) circuit. When the input voltage is applied, the POR circuit detects a low input voltage, and activates the POR pin output. After the device is out of reset due to the rise of input voltage, the POR pin will be in the high state until the device is in restart condition.

AP7311-18WG-7 linear voltage regulator features short-circuit current limiting and thermal shutdown protection. No external components are required for operation of the device. The maximum operating temperature range of the device is from -40 °C to 85 °C.
