Working Principle

The AP78L08VL-A uses the principle of an adjustable linear regulator. It works by adjusting the output voltage via a control signal. This is done by using two feedback resistors, one to set the output voltage and one to sense the current. The internal IC compares the output voltage with its reference voltage and adjusts the duty cycle of the output current accordingly. This is done by either increasing or decreasing the duty cycle of the output current, depending on whether the output voltage is too low or too high, respectively. The duty cycle is kept within specified limits and the output voltage is maintained as close to its set value as possible.

The AP78L08VL-A is also equipped with a reset circuit which will reset the output voltage if it drops below a specified level.
