The thyristor is similar to a diode in that it has two junctions, but it has three layers of a semiconductor unlike a diode. This three layer construction enables the thyristor to be bi-directional and offer switching capabilities.The AQW216EHAZ relay contains two thyristors, one working as the input and the other one as the output. When the input voltage is applied, the input thyristor switches on and coordinates the operation of the output thyristor. As the input voltage is removed, the output thyristor is released and the output voltage is tripped.When the input voltage is returned to the relay, a delay circuit is activated. This delay circuit ensures that the input voltage is not immediately applied to the output thyristor after power has been restored.Without this delay circuit, the output voltage may be unintentionally tripped when the power is restored.
