The ARD00797 evaluation board is a versatile tool designed to serve as an easy-to-use reference platform for testing and performance scaling of DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS. It offers a wide range of features and options, which are ideal for use in a research, laboratory, or testing environment. The board provides a wide range of voltage and current monitoring features, as well as temperature, frequency, and oscilloscope integration.
The board features a through-hole installation socket, capacitors, and resistors, allowing for easy customization of the kit for various topologies. The DC/DC side of the board is equipped with a 1µF ceramic capacitor installed near the drain of the primary MOSFET, along with a series of resistors to monitor the voltage of the central node. For current sensing, two jumpers are included on the board (K1 and K2) and can be used to sense the current at the inductor output. Similarly, a jumper is provided on the gate of the primary MOSFET (K3) to monitor the gate voltage.
In addition to these, a wide range of electronic components are included such as useful bipolar transistor models, various MOSFET packages, metal-oxide-semiconductor FETs (MOSFETs)/IGBTs, DPAD bridges, MOSFET switches, and ICs. The board also features a wide range of different outputs such as a voltage output, current output, frequency output, PWM output, and digital output. All signals are accessible via the 5mm pin header.
To enable smooth operation on the AC/DC side of the board, a series of LEDs are installed at the output of the rectified mains voltage. An internal short circuit protection circuit is present to further ensure stability of the system. To observe the transient behavior of the circuit, a timer trigger is included to initiate the recurrence capture process. The scope output provides a clear view of the transient response.
The ARD00797 evaluation board uses an inbuilt power supply to power itself, along with a heat sink to dissipate unnecessary heat from components such as the MOSFETs. To enable testing of various topologies and configurations, the board also includes jumpers to allow for circuit tracing and easy installation in tight spots. All components used on the board are safely installed and sit firmly in place, eliminating the chance of accidental damage.
