Application field

The AS5035-Z is an absolute position sensor, which provides accurate angular position measurement over a full 360° range. It is well suited for applications requiring a low-cost, robust, rotary position sensing solution and can be used in robotics, industrial and consumer applications, such as HVAC, automotive, pumps, medical, as well as for motor commutation.

The device is a contactless, magnetic encoder with a range up to 360°; it offers a two-channel sine and cosine output signal and digital output signal. Its built-in signal processor provides integrated sine- and cosine-wave signal filtering, signal averaging and jitter reduction. In addition, the AS5035-Z supports magnetic field disturbance tracking and compensation.

Working principle

The AS5035-Z absolute position sensor works with a magnetic field to detect the angular position of a magnet. A magnet is placed at the measuring axis perpendicular to the component in order to have a linear relationship between magnetic field intensity variation and the angular displacement. The AS5035-Z then detects magnetic field variations by using a hall element. The output of theas5035-Z gives a measure of the angular orientation over a range of 360°.

The sensing element of this system is a dual hall element, which can measure the applied magnetic field in two orthogonal axes. This magnetic field is then processed by a signal processor, which determines the angular orientation of the magnet relative to the component.

The AS5035-Z can measure the angular position in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions with a resolution of 0.02°. This accuracy is maintained by the device’s dynamic tracking and compensation mechanism, which continually monitors the magnetic field and takes corrective measures in order to maintain the proper angular positioning.
