The AS8506C-BQFP-S is a power management integrated circuit combining buck, linear, and switch-mode topologies for multi-rail PMIC (power management IC) solutions. The fully integrated design reduces power stages, cost, and customer rework. This device is optimized for Battery Management (BM) applications, such as laptops, tablets, and other consumer electronics devices. The AS8506C-BQFP-S features an integrated buck regulator, a wide input voltage range, and an adjustable output voltage range of 0.7 V to 5.5 V. Its buck regulator architecture supports pulse frequency modulation and can produce an output voltage to a maximum of 30 V. The device also features a low-dropout linear regulator (LDO) with an adjustable output voltage range from 0.7 V to 5.5 V, a synchronous switch-mode power converter with output voltages up to 5 V, and adjustable, fixed and dual power mode control. It also supports a high-speed switch-mode step-up converter.

The AS8506C-BQFP-S also offers many programmable protections and safety features, such as programmable over-voltage protection, input over-voltage and under-voltage protection, output under-voltage, over-current, and short-circuit protection. The device integrates a three-phase balancing circuit that can be used to charge Lithium ion and Lithium-polymer batteries. The battery monitoring features include temperature sense, an inbuilt voltage monitor, a battery voltage monitor, an onboard current monitor with a measuring range up to 500 mA, an internal VDD rail with a measuring range up to 6 V, and an internal VID bus to measure the load current.

The AS8506C-BQFP-S also features an integrated digital power sequencer, which is used to control the startup of multiple power stages, ensuring a safe and secure system startup. The device features a wide range of global clock frequencies and slew rate control, allowing the user to optimize the system clock for maximum efficiency. Additionally, the device is designed for minimal external component count, which helps reduce the overall system cost.
