AS8801-ASSM is a Supervising and System Management IC designed for regulating power supply lines in applications operating with an input voltage at or below 8V. The IC is designed to mitigate the environmental hazards of over-voltage, inrush current, over-current, thermal shutdown, and power supply reset. The IC features fast action shut-down, noise reduction, and standard default functions, ideal for applications such as sensors, industrial control, automotive systems, switch mode power supplies and cell phones.
The AS8801-ASSM contains three main components; a POR (Power On Reset) circuit, an OVP (Over Voltage Protection) circuit and a comparator. The POR circuit is used for resetting the power supply when the input loses power or falls below a certain threshold. The comparator is used for monitoring the output and triggering a reset if the output is outside a predetermined range. The OVP circuit is used for monitoring the input voltage, providing a safe indication of an excessive input voltage.
The AS8801-ASSM functions by sensing input voltage and protecting the circuitry by shutting down the power supply when a pre-programmable threshold is exceeded. The IC can be programmed to trip an open-drain output when input voltage or output voltage ranges are exceeded. It also has a power-on reset (POR) feature which will reset the power supply when the input voltage is lost causing a potential current leakage or electrical hazard.
The AS8801-ASSM helps maintain system stability by regulating the power supply lines while the device is powered by supplying the system with safe power. It continuously monitors the input voltage and will shut down the system when the voltage reaches a certain level. The IC also reduces noise in the system by acting as a low impedance protective control unit between the power supply lines and the system.
The software monitor application field and working principle of the AS8801-ASSM make it ideal for a variety of applications, such as automotive systems, communication systems, temperature control systems and machine tools. It is suitable for use in harsh environments due to its temperature range of -40°C to +105°C and its low current overhead. The IC is built with 3.3V compatible buffers to maintain the low standby current, thus meeting the requirements for low power applications.
In conclusion, the AS8801-ASSM is a powerful Supervising and System Management IC suitable for applications operating with an input voltage at or below 8V. The IC is designed to mitigate the environmental hazards of over-voltage, inrush current, over-current, thermal shutdown and power supply reset. It functions through sensing input voltage and protecting the circuitry by shutting down the power supply when a pre-programmable threshold is exceeded. The IC is suitable for use in automotive systems, communication systems, temperature control systems and machine tools due to its low current overhead and temperature range.
