AT28HC256-70TI as a memory IC is a 32K x 8 CMOS Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM). Memory cells are divided into 16 blocks of 2K x 8 bytes each. It supports 4kV of ESD protection and -40°C to +85°C operating temperatures.
AT28HC256-70TI application field is diverse. The address is set by multiplexing the address lines A0-A15. Each memory cell holds an 8-bit quantity, represented by DQ0-DQ7 in the AT28HC256-70TI. Data is transferred from or to the cell’s 8-bit output pin. Program/erase operation is controlled by the command/data (CD) pin.
The memory array is split into 16 blocks of 2K x 8 bits each. Blocks can be read, programmed, or erased individually. The Program/Erase cycles are initiated by a series of special commands. Program/Erase operations start with sending a 3-byte command sequence. There are two programming operations: the Byte Load Mode and the Page Load Mode. These programming modes are used to write data into the array. Erase operations are used to set all bits of a block to 0. During the Program/Erase cycles the chip’s internal voltage regulator is activated and the write protection is activated to avoid accidental writes/erases.
AT28HC256-70TI also has an internal programming time-out counter. The counter is used to detect inactivity during Program/Erase operations. The counter is reset by Power On Reset or Program/Erase operations. Other features include four standby modes, power-down mode, and block locked feature to prevent the accidental deletion of important data.
