Introduction

The ATA5580M132-TSMW series RFID transponder is a compact and highly integrated microchip embedded in a PC/ABS card. This card is designed for all kinds of applications involving contactless smart object identification and can be used in medical, transport, and payment systems. It is a low-cost, very reliable and robust RFID transponder that combines advanced encryption, embedded antennas and reliable write / read performance with a small form factor and low power consumption. It is the latest addition to the Atmel ATA5580M series of RFID products.

Features

The ATA5580M132-TSMW RFID Transponder is based on the Atmel ATA5580M1313F integrated circuit. It is a unique low-cost 13.56 MHz contactless smart card IC with an enhanced EEPROM memory. The ATA5580M1313F IC features a K9 symmetric Cryptographic Algorithm, an integrated 8-bit microcontroller with a 16-bit processing engine and an FRAM memory of 4,8 and 16KB. Additionally, the ATA5580M1313F IC has a contactless read / write performance of up to 126 kbits/s and a communication range of up to 5 cm. The ATA5580M132-TSMW RFID Transponder also includes an I2C interface for the contactless IC, a serial interface (2-wire) for the area I2C control, and a bevel design connector for downlink antenna connection. The ATA5580M132-TSMW transponder is compatible with all popular 13.56MHz contactless smart card systems, including ISO/ IEC 15693, NFC Forum Type 2, and IEC 1609.

Application Field and Working Principle

The ATA5580M132-TSMW RFID Transponder operates at 13.56MHz HF frequency, allowing it to be primarily used for any contactless secure identification and object recognition applications. This transponder is particularly useful in areas where RFID is used for positive authentication of assets, contactless warehousing and store inventory tracking, access control and ticketing and loyalty systems. The working principle of the ATA5580M132-TSMW RFID Transponder is based on the fact that it is composed of radio-frequency energy, which is utilized by the information stored on the integrated circuit to transform it into an answer signal. The radio-frequency energy is produced by a reader device utilizing magnetic-field coupled signals at a carrier frequency of 13.56MHz. Upon receipt of this signal by the antenna, the transponder is generating an answer signal and returning it to the reader device. The communication protocol used for the data exchange between the transponder and the reader conforms to ISO/IEC 15693. To meet the requirements of the ISO/IEC 15693 standard, the cryptographic features are compliant with the most common authentication algorithms such as AES, Plus, XOR, or K10. The ATA5580M132-TSMW Transponder also supports the K9 algorithm which allows the system to perform encryption, decryption, and key management during the data exchange process. Additionally, the encryption algorithm is also used to protect the stored data from malicious attacks or unauthorized access.
