The Atmega644RFR2-ZF is part of the Atmel RF transceiver family of ICs. This chip is a highly integrated system-on-chip (SOC) that combines an Atmega microcontroller, a programmable RF transceiver, and a host of other peripherals in a single chip. It is designed for low-power wireless solutions such as home security systems, remote control systems, and wireless sensing applications.
The Atmega644RFR2-ZF incorporates a low-power 915 MHz radio transceiver front end with an integrated low-noise amplifier (LNA). It has 256kB of program memory, 32kB of SRAM and a 10-bit ADC. It is designed for low-power applications and can operate down to 1.8V with a power consumption of 7mW (transmit mode) and a sleep current of 200nA. The Atmega644RFR2-ZF is also able to run at clock speeds up to 30MHz.
The Atmega644RFR2-ZF operates as a digital signal processor (DSP) where it can decode and encode up to 1Mbps of data using the Gaussian frequency shift keying (GFSK) modulation scheme. It is also capable of operating as a spread-spectrum transceiver using both frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) and direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) modes. The Atmega644RFR2-ZF can also be programmed as a direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) transceiver using an on-chip binary phase shift keying (BPSK) symbol demodulator.
The Atmega644RFR2-ZF has an integrated power amplifier which boosts the RF signal right before transmission. The amplifier is designed to provide good range and improved link budgets. The Atmega644RFR2-ZF is also able to support up to 32 bytes of acknowledging messages.
The Atmega644RFR2-ZF is a flexible system-on-chip and can be used in many applications like home security systems, remote control systems, and wireless sensing. It is capable of operating over a wide spectrum of frequencies and can support a variety of protocols like GFSK, FHSS, and DSSS.
