ATTENUATORSATN3590-05 is a five-port mm-wave monolithic attenuator which provides superior performance in various applications spanning across a wide frequency band up to 60GHz. This device is packaged in a leadless flip-chip format and is designed to provide maximum performance. Its working principle is simple, yet powerful and efficient. Working PrincipleATN3590-05 is based on a four port directional coupler design. Two of the outputs are coupled and two are isolated, with one Port 1 connected to ground. The ATN3590-05 uses a PIN diode located in each path to accomplish the desired isolation levels. This diode connected in series with a resistor is modulated by a control voltage. The applied control voltage is used to adjust the attenuation level of the signal. Different control voltage levels correspond to different amount of power attenuation. When the control voltage is low, the attenuator is completely off, and when the control voltage is increased, the amount of power attenuation increases until it reaches a maximum value. The PIN diode in the circuit absorbs part of the energy from the signal, regaining the adjusted amount of power. There are four distinct states or levels of attenuation; off, low, medium, and high.
