The AWZ2-16 is a 16-way registered PCB terminal through-hole stripping (SMT) connector. It is designed to replace through-hole dipping and soldering processes, by using the AWZ2-16 ancillary parts to help reduce labor, assembly time and cost savings.

The AWZ2-16 features a 2-piece design with a pair of male and female housings that are ganged together. The two housings lock together using a lug and cam lock mechanism, and are secured to the PCB using an internal screw thread. The housings feature 2 rows of 8 contacts and are made of PBT/PA6 blend polyether block amide material. The contacts are made of steel and are gold plated.

The AWZ2-16 application field is extensive, as it is used for connecting a variety of electrical components to a PCB. For example, the connection of an inductor to the ground plane or a floating input voltage terminal to the ground plane. Additionally, the AWZ2-16 can be used in multiplex switching applications such as switch matrix or daisy chain configuration.

The AWZ2-16 working principle is as follows: The male and female housings are mated with the lugs on the female housing entering the grooves on the male housing. The cam lock mechanism then locks the housings together and holds them firmly in place. The contact terminals are then inserted into the contact housing and secured with the internal screw thread. When the housings are mated, the contact tabs make contact with each other, allowing for electrical components to be connected to the PCB.
