AZ317HTR-E1 APPLICATION FIELD AND WORKING PRINCIPLE

The AZ317HTR-E1 is a low power, low drop-out linear regulator from Diodes Incorporated. It is a fixed voltage regulator designed for use in DC-DC converters, battery chargers and other electronics applications. The device is capable of providing a regulated output voltage, up to 5V and 500mA with very low quiescent current consumption. The AZ317HTR-E1 is a monolithic device consisting of an on-chip adjustable bipolar transistor, temperature compensation and temperature protection circuit, oscillator circuit and current regulation circuit. It has built-in protection against input overvoltage, output short circuit, thermal shutdown and under/over-voltage protection. The device also features a low dropout voltage of typically 1V at 1mA and 0.35V at 500mA output current. This makes it suitable for low voltage applications, including those which require a stable output voltage at load currents down to 0.1mA. The AZ317HTR-E1 is capable of using an external resistor to form the feedback path for voltage regulation. This allows for high degree of accuracy and improved linearity in response to step and transient load changes. The device features an active output discharge circuit and an enable control pin that can be used to put the device into a shutdown mode. The main application field of AZ317HTR-E1 is in DC-DC converters and power management. If a valid input voltage is not detected, the device stays in this under voltage lockout phase until such time that the input voltage is sufficient again. To enter into the normal operation phase, the input voltage must exceed the under voltage lockout threshold by a preset level, which is usually greater than 500mV. Once this level is detected, the AZ317HTR-E1 compares the actual output voltage to a reference voltage and regulates the output by controlling the amount of current supplied by the pass-transistor. The AZ317HTR-E1 can also be used in audio, video and medical devices that require high accuracy, such as ECG and EEG monitors. It is available in two packages-an 8-pin TO-220 narrow body, with a maximum temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and an 8-pin TO-252 wide body, with an extended temperature range of -40°C to +150°C.
