Working Principle

Single rectifiers work on the principle of using a single PN junction diode to limit current flow in one direction. When the forward-bias voltage exceeds the PN junction barrier voltage of the diode, a small current (called the “switching current”) flows and the diode becomes “on”. The current then flows through the diode in the forward bias direction and is converted into a DC voltage. If the forward bias voltage becomes lower than the PN junction barrier voltage of the diode, the diode becomes “off” and current no longer flows.
