Construction
Both devices are constructed in a standard SOT-223 package, with three pins where the anode connects to the center pin while the internal diode is connected between the center pin and the cathode pin. The common pin is connected to the external circuit, allowing both direct and alternating current to pass through the component.
Working Principle
The working principle of the BAT86,113 diode rectifiers lies in a process known as reverse biased. Basically, this means that when the current is applied to the anode of the component, it will be blocked, as an oxide layer is created between the anode and the cathode, preventing any further flow. At the same time, a parallel process occurs inside the part, where the current is applied to the cathode, and it normally passes throughout the entire component without any impediment.
The current then has to go through the external circuit, which can be seen in the form of a rectified sine wave. A rectified sine wave is a representation of the alternating voltage, in which half of the wave is blocked by the diode and the other half is allowed to pass through.
