BB-BONE-000, also known as the Beagle Bone embedded single board computer, is a tiny embedded system designed for use in embedded applications. It is a compact, powerful, flexible and cost-effective embedded computing solution. The board was designed by Steve Newcomb and was launched in October 2011. The board runs the Linux operating system and is loaded with all the necessary features and tools to enable the developer to quickly create embedded applications.

The BB-BONE-000 application field includes a range of different industries, such as industrial automation, consumer electronics, automotive applications, medical devices, and research applications. It is perfect for applications which require a low power and cost-effective solution for on-board data acquisition, feedback control, sensing, and other applications which require an onboard processing unit.

The BB-BONE-000 features a Texas Instruments Sitara AM335x Cortex A8 processor running at 1GHz, 512MB DDR3 RAM, 2GB 8-bit eMMC Flash, and 4GB microSD card. It also includes a variety of peripheral ports, including USB 2.0, Ethernet, HDMI, audio, and four UART ports. Additionally, it includes onboard header pins which support a variety of other digital, analog, and power I/Os.

The BB-BONE-000 has two main operating modes, the Host or On-Board mode. In Host mode, the board can be connected to a PC or laptop via the USB cable and used as a development platform. It can be used for creating and debugging embedded applications, or it can be used as an embedded system for data logging, controlling, or interfacing with other external systems.

In On-Board mode, the embedded system will run standalone without requiring a PC or laptop. In this mode, the BB-BONE-000 supports low-speed protocols like I2C and SPI and digital I/O control to support a variety of applications. It also supports a range of high-speed radio protocols such as 802.11g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy, and Zigbee for connecting to the Internet of Things.

The Beagle Bone also comes with a variety of software libraries, utilities, and tools. It has a dedicated software development environment, which makes it easy to develop applications and firmware for the device. Additionally, there is a comprehensive range of board support packages, and a variety of tutorials and how-to guides available to help customers get started with the system.
