Variable capacitance diode or varactor diode is a diode whose capacitance can be varied by modulating its reverse voltage. It can be used as variable capacitance electronic component, or variable capacitance tunable filter.

BBY 53-02v E6327 is a variable capacitance diode (VCD) with high voltage, high frequency and high reliability. It is ideal for mobile communication in the UHF band from 300 MHz to 3 GHz.

BBY 53-02v E6327 is widely used in various kinds of RF filters, oscillators and UHF amplifiers. It is capable of providing high frequency, low noise and low capacitance change in the UHF band, making it suitable for applications such as radio up- and-down converters (DUC/DDC), satellite navigation systems, handheld radio receivers and general purpose filters.

Working Principle:

When the diode is forward biassed, a majority of the electric field is concentrated near the biassed anode, resulting in an effective capacitance between the anode and cathode to lower the frequency of the load circuit. When the diode is reversed biassed, the electric field is concentrated near the biassed cathode, increasing the frequency of the load circuit.

The capacitance of a VCD is directly proportional to the reverse voltage, so by controlling the reverse voltage, the capacitance can be manipulated to modulate the frequency of the load circuit. This property is used to make the BBY 53-02v E6327 a highly reliable UHF frequency tunable filter.
