Integrated circuit solutions, such as PMICs, are ubiquitous in consumer and industrial electronics. Power management integrated circuits (PMIC) are manufactured to control the power functions of an array of components and devices. Supervisors (BD5100FVM-TR) are part of the PMIC group, and carry out special functions to facilitate and safeguard the functioning of attached devices.
The BD5100FVM-TR is a high-precision voltage detection supervisor for monitoring power rails in precision systems. It is designed to accurately monitor a 4.5V to 16V DC input, and provides accurate open detector protect for input voltage values above or below stated thresholds. The BD5100FVM-TR is a compact supervisor, with an operating temperature range of -40℃ to +85℃, and capable of being soldered straight onto the PCB.
The BD5100 includes 2 active-high open detector comparators with an internally adjustable threshold set point, 1 active-high accurate reference reset output with an internally adjustable threshold set point, and one active-low open detector reset output.
Under the operating temperature range of -40℃ to +85℃, the accurate reference reset output state of the BD5100FVM-TR can be maintained within ±2.8mV of the adjusted set point. The reset output state of this device is determined by whether VDD and VTH are respectively higher or lower than set values. Additionally, the reset output delay time of the BD5100FVM-TR varies from 500µs to 1.6ms, depending on the applied power rail voltage.
The BD5100FVM-TR’s open detector reset output is primarily used to detect input voltage values above (VOH) or below (VOL) stated thresholds. Specifically, a LOW output occurs when either VOH or VOL exceeds predetermined values, and the output remains LOW for about 1.2ms. The active-high reset output activates when either VOH or VOL exceed predetermined values. This reset output remains active for about 31µs ((max)1s (min)) after the set threshold is satisfied.
Applications of the BD5100FVM-TR include power systems, computing systems, ATM’s, data processing, automobile electronic systems, and many other power conversion, system power monitoring, and power management applications.
In Summary, the BD5100FVM-TR is a low power, compact supervisor for monitoring power rails. The device provides alarm and protection against under or over voltage applications by tight regulation of the set thresholds. It is used to detect over and under voltages, and to convey alarms when either set thresholds are exceeded. As a PMIC member of the supervisors, the BD5100FVM-TR effectively safeguards power systems against damage due to altered or unexpected power rail voltage.
