The BK/ATC-3ID Automatic Transfer Control System (ATC-3ID) is an open-architecture, high performance, digital, fast operating and modular system for industrial automation. Designed for factory automation, ATC-3ID is a fully featured, high-speed I/O system for operating in and around environments like extended temperature ranges, hazardous areas, and areas where hostile or severe environmental conditions exist. The BK/ATC-3ID consists of several components including a master controller, slave controllers, interface boards (I/O boards) and communication cards. The master controller is the main element of the system, providing the interface to the user, data repository and communication network between components. It contains an array of I/O boards, each capable of communicating with up to 8 slaves. The slave controllers use the I/O boards to connect to different external components like sensors, relays, transducers and so on.

The working principle of BK/ATC-3ID is based on the modular concept. The system architecture consists of two main elements, the master controller and the slave controllers. According to the application requirements, I/O boards are linked in star topology to a master controller, which serves as the interface between the system and the users. The master controller performs the necessary calculations and sends commands to the slave controllers. Each slave controller can then control the different external components according to the commands given by the master controller.

BK/ATC-3ID performs periodic data readout of the input and output signals and stores them in the internal memory. When the master board receives a request from the user for a certain type of signal, it retrieves the necessary values from the internal memory and sends the information to the user. This helps to increase the efficiency of the system by eliminating the need to read in all the signals from the external components.
