The BMA220-SHUTL is an integrated evaluation board with a Bosch BMA220 low power three-axis accelerometer. The evaluation board allows users to quickly prepare the BMA220 for various applications. This evaluation board utilizes the BMA220 low power three-axis accelerometer, capable of measuring both linear and rotational acceleration with very low power consumption and high signal-to-noise ratio. The BMA220-SHUTL is supported by a comprehensive design package which includes schematic and layout files, STM8 firmware, an Android demo app, and an I2C protocol sample code.

Gaming Devices

Applications for gaming devices use the BMA220-SHUTL in order to detect rotational and linear acceleration. Working Principle

The BMA220-SHUTL board utilizes the Bosch BMA220 low power three-axis accelerometer which is capable of measuring both linear and rotational acceleration with very low power consumption and a high signal-to-noise ratio. The BMA220 is connected to the board through 16 external interfaces with the I2C data line. When the external interface receives the measurement commands from the I2C, the Bosch BMA220 starts sampling the acceleration data. The BMA220 is capable of measuring gravity acceleration, such as linear acceleration, and also provides noise filtering.

The BMA220-SHUTL board also contains an embedded STM8 microcontroller which can perform several operations on the acceleration data. The STM8 microcontroller is connected to the BMA220 through the I2C interface. It receives acceleration data from the BMA220 and can then do things such as detect changes in acceleration and calculate movements such as steps taken. The STM8 microcontroller can process the data, store the processed data, display the processed data, and send the processed data to other devices or computers.
