The BQ29209DRBT is a general-purpose, low dropout linear charger designed to charge 1-4 cell lithium ion and lithium polymer (Li-ion or Li-Poly) batteries from a USB port, wall adapter, or other DC power source. The device incorporates a configurable, maximum safety timer and automatic input current limit with a selectable input charging current. The BQ29209DRBT supports constant-current/constant-voltage algorithm and configurable charge termination methods.The BQ29209DRBT is a highly integrated and efficient charging solution that provides the flexibility to be used for a wide variety of battery-operated devices. Working Principle of BQ29209DRBT

The BQ29209DRBT is a, low dropout linear charger designed to charge 1-4 cell lithium ion and lithium polymer (Li-ion or Li-Poly) batteries from a USB port, wall adapter, or other DC power source. The BQ29209DRBT utilizes a multi-stage, slow fast charge operation, consisting of an input current limit/preset current charge stage, a constant current phase, and a constant voltage phase. The BQ29209DRBT can provide a configurable, maximum safety timer and automatic input current limit with a selectable input charging current.In the constant current phase, the BQ29209DRBT is designed to regulate the current at the desired charge current level. The constant voltage phase allows for voltage regulation of the battery up to the set floating voltage. The BQ29209DRBT is designed to charge the battery until the current drops below the termination current level, at which point the device will issue a charge complete interrupt.The BQ29209DRBT is configured via the I2C bus. The user can configure various parameters, such as charging termination current, charge voltage, charge current and charge timer limit. The device supports two temperature monitoring systems – one internal temperature monitor system and one external temperature monitoring system. The external temperature monitor system can support up to two external temperature monitor chips, providing greater flexibility in the design of a system by allowing the user to monitor the temperature of two areas simultaneously. The BQ29209DRBT also supports a configurable, maximum safety timer that automatically shuts down the charge process if the preset time limit is exceeded. This feature provides added assurance of safety during charging at higher currents, as well as prolonged charging at lower currents.
