Reed Relays

A reed relay is an electrical switch consisting of an insulated case containing a coil of wire and a number of reeds. Reeds are thin strips of metal, typically made of stainless steel, nickel-iron alloy, or silicon iron. They are hinged and have a physical contact gap at one end. When an electric current runs through the coil, it generates an electromagnet that attracts the reeds and brings them back together, initiating the contact. BT05-2A66 Application Field and Working Principle
