BU30TA2WNVX-TR is a PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) linear voltage regulator, most prominently used in a variety of applications. It is used to convert a higher voltage power supply into the desired voltage level, necessary to power the required IC or component. As the regulator acts as an interface between the power supply and device, it is designed to hold the output voltage in order to improve the performance and efficiency of the component.
The BU30TA2WNVX-TR offers five features, namely Adjustable Output Voltage, Short Circuit Protection, Thermal shutdown, Over Current Protection and Thermal Regulation. The adjustable output voltage can be based on a voltage divider resistor network, allowing the user to set the output voltage. This output voltage can vary between 3V and 40V with respect to the input supply. The device is protected from possible short circuits or over current conditions, and in cases of over temperature the device shuts down itself, protecting it from damage.

The device package consists of 16 pins and the standard industry operating temperature range is -40°C to 150°C.
The working principle of the BU30TA2WNVX-TR is based on the classical transfer mechanism. That is, the voltage regulator has two transistors, an NPN and a PNP transistor. These two transistors are connected in a hard switched manner and controlled through the current flowing through the pass transistor. As the current flowing through the pass transistor increases, the voltage across the regulator decreases (the output voltage), thus allowing the output voltage to be adjusted in accordance with the desired voltage. The output voltage can be varied depending upon the current flowing through the pass transistor.
The BU30TA2WNVX-TR is widely used in various applications. It is used to provide constant voltage in analog circuits, protection circuits, to provide regulated supply to microprocessors and digital circuits, to regulate secondary supply voltage and in other switching regulator circuits. It is also used to generate negative and positive voltage supplies, and to control the speed of DC motors, enabling the motor to run at a constant speed. Another important application is in the laser diode voltage regulation mechanism. The BU30TA2WNVX-TR enables the laser diode to run at a constant output voltage.
