BU33TD3WG-TR Application Field and Working Principle

The BU33TD3WG-TR is a series of low-dropout integrated voltage regulator products developed by Richtek Technology Corporation with a current capacity of 3A. It is mainly used in notebook computers, set-top boxes, routers and other embedded electromagnetic fields, low-voltage regulators, power supplies and other electronic products.

The BU33TD3WG-TR, with a voltage range of 0.8V ~ 3.3V, is based on a patented control topology, which integrates a low-dropout (LDO) voltage regulator, low-resistance power switch and current limit circuit into a single IC chip. The U8V8WG-TR is an integrated +3A adjustable low-dropout linear regulator with an operating temperature range of -40 °C to 125 °C. It has excellent output current capability and long time stability, and can protect itself against short circuits. The various voltage settings can also be set by external resistors.

Working Principle

The BU33TD3WG series integrates the low-dropout control circuit, current feedback, power switch and current limitation circuit. Its control topology can reduce the current flow to the regulator, this reduces the idle current of the device and increases the efficiency of power usage. The LDO control architecture varies according to the working environment, and its output voltage can be set to be different by external resistors to adjust the output voltage.

Inside the BU33TD3WG-TR, there is a comparator that is connected between an input voltage (applied to the chip) and the voltage reference of the device. This input voltage is regulated to reduce the output voltage drop by the error amplifier of the chip. The error amplifier determines the charge or discharge current of the output capacitor, thus ensuring a stable output voltage across a wide load range. The feedback control circuit activates a power switch if the current limit value is exceeded. The power switch will cut off the output current if a current load or output fault occurs.

The BU33TD3WG-TR also includes a Shutdown (SHDN) input, allowing the device to be power-down through external control signals. When SHDN is connected to the ground, the output is disabled, and the supply current is reduced to less than 1μA, which reduces power consumption and prolongs the working life of the system.
